Complex products, complex supply chains

Luxury handbags typically involve around 15 components, leading to intricate supply chains with significant impact on people, animals, and the planet—especially when it comes to leather and hardware.

For decades, handbags have been made the same way. It's time for a change!

How we're doing things differently

  • Replacing leather with innovative plant-based alternatives
  • Eliminating hardware
  • Reducing toxicity with OEKO-TEX certified and undyed materials
  • Ensuring our artisans work in ethical conditions and that they receive a legal wage
  • Ensuring transparency and traceability
  • Working towards completely synthetic-free products

As Kate Raworth, author of "Doughnut Economics", says:

"BOUNDARIES UNLEASH CREATIVITY"

Without our self-imposed boundaries, we would have just created another leather bag with a zipper or magnetic closure and adjustable buckle strap. Instead, we've made something entirely new—and the results are incredible!

A note from the founder

Hi,

I'm Elena, the human behind LOUÉ STUDIO!

I started the brand because I couldn't find a handbag I felt completely good about buying. 2 years ago I was on the hunt for the perfect black shoulder bag. I was drawn to leather bags for their more sophisticated designs and craftsmanship, but I didn’t want to buy leather. When I explored vegan options, I realised they were mostly made of plastic, and no brand offered the transparency and traceability I sought.

Fashion is a key form of self-expression, yet it rarely reflects our values. Determined to find a better solution, I began researching materials, manufacturing, and design. The more I learned, the more I knew I had to take action and create the brand I envisioned myself!

LOUÉ STUDIO exists to make handbags we can feel good about buying, while also educating and inspiring change. I am on a mission to innovate the handbag industry and redefine what a handbag can be. It's not an easy task, but I guess that's what makes it exciting! Join me on this journey 🙌

PS: Two years later, I finally got my black shoulder bag – and I couldn’t feel more proud!
