Why did you choose MIRUM®?
I wanted something that felt as luxurious as leather, but aligned with LOUÉ’s values: fully plant-based, plastic-free, and made with integrity. MIRUM® was the only material that met all those standards, with no compromises.
What is MIRUM® made of?
MIRUM® is made of:
- 43% natural rubber
- 23% mineral fillers
- 13% plant oils
- 14% cotton backer
- 5% natural pigments
- 2% patented plant-based curative
Since MIRUM is plant-based, will it disintegrate in my closet?
No! MIRUM® is built to last. Think about wood – it's natural but incredibly durable. It won’t break down during everyday use. MIRUM® only biodegrades in specific industrial composting environments, and when it does, it leaves behind no microplastics or toxins, just nutrients.
Is it just another cheap vegan leather?
Not even close. MIRUM® was developed over 10 years by the scientists at NFW (Natural Fiber Welding), a company on a mission to create a premium, plastic-free alternative to conventional synthetic leathers and other materials.
It has won numerous awards and costs more than most traditional leathers. You're investing in better materials, and helping drive innovation in fashion.
How durable is it?
Extremely. MIRUM® has passed all tests commonly required for leathergoods and is used in BMW interiors, where materials must meet some of the highest durability standards in the world. With proper care, your bag will age beautifully and last for years to come.
Moreover, it is naturally water-resistant and has a durable surface finish that resists soft marks and wears gracefully in daily life.
Will it peel like PU?
No. PU (polyurethane) is essentially layers of plastic glued onto fabric so it dries out, cracks, and peels over time.
MIRUM® is entirely different: it’s made by mechanically pressing natural rubber onto a cotton backing. No plastic, no synthetic coatings. It stays flexible and softens gently with use, without peeling.
How does it feel?
Supple, smooth, and luxurious – comparable to calfskin. Most people are surprised to learn it’s not leather, and feedback from our customers has bbbeeen incredible.
How do I care for it?
Naturally water-resistant and low-maintenance, MIRUM® simply asks for mindful care. Avoid sharp objects, abrasives, oils, and direct contact with perfume. To clean, gently wipe with a damp cloth. For more persistent marks, use a touch of warm water with mild detergent. When not in use, store your bag in the protective dust bag provided.
Are there any better alternatives you could've used?
Not today. There are some other great materials that are partly bio-based – some as high as 95%. And while a few 100% plant-based options are beginning to emerge, they’re either not comparable in luxury feel, or they haven’t been fully commercialised yet. That’s why I can say with confidence: I chose the best material possible for LOUÉ.
Function and fit
What fits?
The Mano Pochette is surprisingly spacious – it fits your phone, keys, small wallet, lipstick, sunglasses, airpods, and a few extras.
Is the closure secure?
Absolutely. The tab closure was intentionally designed to be hardware-free – minimal, functional, and secure.
Does it have a strap?
Yes, the Manao Pochette comes with a detachable and adjustable crossbody strap, with a generous drop.
