We choose premium, durable, natural materials to ensure our handbags are both luxurious and sustainable. We omit metals and minimise the use of synthetics. By using undyed and minimally processed materials, we reduce toxicity and keep our products as close to nature as possible.

MIRUM

MIRUM is the world's first entirely plant-based and plastic-free leather alternative. It's made with traceable rubber, mineral oils and waxes and cotton. It has a carbon footprint 10x smaller than that of leather and synthetic alternatives.

Unlike leather, it requires no water and tanning - the colours are given by natural pigments!

MATERIALS

Organic cotton

Our canvas lining is made from natural (undyed and unbleached) organic cotton grown and woven in Turkey. You can see the brown speckles in it which are naturally present from the seeds.

Certifications

  • GOTS

Cotton thread

Today, handbags are commonly sewn using polyester, although cotton was the traditional material employed in the past, and is now what we incorporate. Despite some reluctance initially from our factory, we have proven that cotton can be used to sew bags once more.

Certifications

  • OEKO-TEX Standard 100

Other materials

To make a luxury bag, some more materials are needed. The leather, lining and thread make up about 90% of our materials. Other used are:

  • Reinforcements - give body and resistance over time
  • Zero VOC adhesive - helps keep materials together
  • Edge paint - necessary to seal and decorate the edges

No hardware

Unable to source any traceable or recycled hardware, we decided to omit it altogether.

More details on our findings will follow soon!
